Dr. Toka graduated from the prestigious Charite Medical School in Berlin, Germany, in 1997, and received his PhD degree in 2000 studying a rare form of inherited high blood pressure. After completing residency training in Internal Medicine in Germany, Dr.Toka joined the laboratory of Dr. Richard Lifton at Yale School of Medicine?s Department of Genetics. After research focusing on the genetics of hypertension, he completed Internal Medicine training at the University of Massachusetts in 2007, where he received the Primary Care Award for excellent patient care. Dr. Toka completed his Nephrology specialty training at the joint program of the Massachusetts General Hospital & Brigham and Women?s Hospital at Harvard Medical School. Here his research focused on the calcium sensing receptor and congenital kidney anomalies. As a faculty member at the Brigham & Women?s Hospital, he specialized on delivering Peritoneal Dialysis therapy. In 2014, Dr. Toka was recognized as Hypertension Specialist by the American Society of Hypertension. He next joined the Eastern Virginia Medical School and assumed the role of Chief of Nephrology at the Hampton Veterans Affairs Medical Center. He helped establish the EVMS Nephrology Fellowship training program. In 2016, Dr. Toka moved to Florida and joined the Manatee Kidney Diseases Consultants in Bradenton, FL. Dr. Toka is a compassionate board-certified nephrologist and clinical researcher. He is a Principal Investigator on multiple clinical trials, concerning kidney disease related conditions including high blood pressure.
